First Communion

This painting/combine expresses the artist's first encounter with God while laying on his blue wagon, under a tree. White drippings on the wagon are the grace of God. This work shows the surrounding back yard and neighborhood. He still remembers the experience as if it happened yesterday.

Michael graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1985 with a degree in Commercial Graphic Design. He attended theatre school with the National Theatre of the Deaf, in Chester, CT in 1987, and was hired as an actor with Fairmount Theatre of the Deaf, Cleveland, OH from 1987-88. In the fall of 1989, he delivered a unique poetry performance called, “Michael in Wonderland”, incorporating original poetry and storytelling with performance art and sign language. He also conducted tours and lectures in American Sign Language at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Michael has been involved in numerous stage performances as a part of community theatre. He is also a fine artist, with solo art shows in 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Incorporating a variety of artistic media, his work purposes to bring awareness to social injustices, the human condition and the relevance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a broken & desperate world. His art communicates “visual parables” to highlight the journey from struggle to redemption through painting, sculpture, performance art and narrative. It is Michael’s prayer that God would open the understanding of your heart and allow you to see with eyes of faith.
